COACHES CORNER

In June, the National Ringette League announced that LMRL had been awarded a National Ringette League franchise that would begin play later in 2011. The LMRL Thunder kick off their inaugural season on the weekend of October 22/23 against the Saskatoon Wild in Burnaby, Port Coquitlam and Langley. Schedules, Rosters and Player Profiles can be found online at www.nationalringetteleague.ca

As part of the LMRL Thunder's mandate to promote and grow the sport of ringette in the Lower Mainland, all players registered in LMRL in the U9, U10, U12, U14, U16 and U19 divisions will be receiving free "Junior Thunder" season passes that give the players access to all LMRL Thunder games, practices and events all season long. We hope to see players at LMRL Thunder home games all season long, and we are sure you and your players will be blown away with the speed, skill and teamwork that will be on display during all NRL games this season.

The LMRL Thunder players and coaches are also available to run clinics or help out at practices in your local association throughout the season. Please contact me directly to set something up - many of the Thunder players are current coaches and ringette camp instructors, and all players are excited to be out in the community, helping to grow the sport and develop all players and coaches.

Ten of the 14 current Thunder players grew up playing ringette in the LMRL with local associations from the Bunny (U9) level up. We are also very excited to welcome the 2010 World Ringette Championship MVP Salla Kyhala and Team Canada's All-Time leading scorer Jenn Wakefield to our team.

We are extremely excited to get the season underway and we hope to see you and your players at a game this season.

Welcome Coaches to the 2011/12 Season!

Hi coaches, take a look at the BCRA website. CI1 is for A teams. For those of you on a nontiered team you could wait for a CSI clinic but later on, if you are involved with an A team, you will need to take the CI1 course so I would just take the CI1 now....especially if you have children in more than one div. They have clinics offered Oct 28-30. Exact times tba.
( Usually starts on the Friday evening, most of Saturday, first part of Sunday ... 100% attendence is required. No games scheduled yet so  this is a good time to do the clinic. Sign up!! )

There is no guarantee that another clinic will be offered and/or where in province and they fill up fast so it is recommended you attend one asap.

You will be reimbursed by SWRRA after successful completeion and presentation of receipt to Treasurer. ( You could forward it through any exec member. Check SWRRA website for contacts. )

So, the courses you need are :
1. CSI for nontiered or B teams only  or CI1 for A teams.
2. Prevention in Motion online course ( avail on Red Cross website or see links on BCRA website ) You may find an actual classroom version...

3. any volunteer working with the kids needs to do a criminal check ( managers, on ice helpers etc. ) Ask your head coach for a cover letter from SWRRA to take with you so Surrey RCMP ( by city hall, not White Rock detachment ) will not charge you for the service. SWRRA will not reimburse you for that charge as the cover letter would have avoided that charge.

Please contact Deb at coaching@surreywhiterockringette.com when you have completed any courses.

SWRRA now has available a reference library of materials for loan to both coaches and parents. Please click here to view what we have.
